Opened in 2008, EastLink is Melbourne’s most recent fully electronic tollway. EastLink is 39km long and carries approximately 250,000 vehicles per day. EastLink’s design and operations make it the safest freeway in Melbourne. EastLink is also renowned for: twin 1.6km tunnels to protect an environmentally sensitive valley; 480 hectares of landscaping with 4 million native trees, shrubs and plants; wetlands that treat road run-off rainwater; distinctive architecture; public artworks and the EastLink Trail shared use path. This EastLink Tour will include a drive on EastLink and through an EastLink tunnel, and a visit to the EastLink Operations Centre. There will be technical presentations, and a guided tour of the EastLink Traffic Control Room and maintenance facilities.
