MARTIN MATTHEWS Until June 2016 Martin was Secretary for Transport in New Zealand, a position he held for nearly eight years. Martin was responsible as Chief Executive of the Ministry of Transport for advice to government on policy, regulation and investment across all modes of transport. During his term as Secretary Martin led the Ministry to take a more strategic long term view about the future of mobility and transport, and the role that technology will play in bringing about a paradigm shift in these things over the coming decades. This leadership was recognised in 2015 when he was inducted into the ITS World Congress Hall of Fame.

Prior to his transport role Martin held leadership positions as Chief Executive of the New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage, and as an Assistant Auditor-General. Martin is currently working as an independent consultant, including on ITS matters.
