Get an insight into Melbourne's key metropolitan public transport control centres for metro trains and the world’s largest tram network.

Yarra Trams’ Operations Centre is based at Tram Hub, a ‘depot for people’ in the heart of the CBD. It brings the power and operations centres into the same room for the first time in 110 years of Melbourne’s electric trams. Controllers monitor 250 kilometres of double track – 75 per cent of which is shared with motor vehicles – as more than 400 trams deliver 35,000 services each week. Trams operate 20 hours a day, with 24-hour services on six lines on weekends as part of the city’s Night Network. To improve customer service, a customer information team is based in the Operations Centre to provide real-time updates through digital and on-network channels. The centre handles around 1,000 calls per day from drivers as Yarra Trams enables half a million passenger trips each day.
